I Hate Love

Looking for quotes on love and how people can really piss me off at times. Found this one by Neil Gaiman. Kind of says what I’m feeling right now…

“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life…You give them a piece of you. They didn’t ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like ‘maybe we should be just friends’ turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It’s a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.” – Neil Gaiman

  1. Redefine your view of love and your suffering will diminish. Seek rather to love than to be loved. You will always get your heartbroken if you are unable to understand that romantic love is an illusion.

    1. Thanks for your insight. I have loved, not once, twice or thrice. But many times. I am a lover at heart. Somewhere though after all the loves, you get to a point when you want to be the one being loved. I don’t love to be loved. But it would be nice for a change.

  2. I was just reading a Neil Gaiman book when I found this post. I can’t say I disagree with any of it, though I can’t get myself to stop. I love, well…love…Even when it rips your heart out, puts it through the blender and feeds it to the cat…I must enjoy the torture or something – anyway, happy blogging…
