Getting Hair Summer Ready

The heat is coming, or so I believe it is (clearly not soon enough for North America). But it is eventually, going to get here and so is the humidity. The -40°C temperatures this winter have really done their toll on my hair. My hair feels dry, dull, unhealthy and just boring, although I recently had it hi-lighted.

Bed time healing:

To give some much needed love to my tresses, I’ve made one of my favorite old recipes to apply before I go to bed tonight.

Here’s what you need:

  • 1/2 cup Mint extract
  • Almond oil

Here’s what you do:

  • Heat almond oil in microwave for 15 seconds, let stand for a couple of seconds to cool
  • Mix 5-6 drops (depending on how tingly you want to feel) of mint extract into the almond oil and mix well
  • Apply to your scalp, working your way down to your roots.
  • Cover with scarf or towel and go to sleep!

When you wake up in the morning, simply wash hair as normal. Give yourself a deep concern conditioning treatment as well; heat your conditioner under hot running water and then apply to your tresses. This will give your hair an extra boost and relax your scalp. Leave conditioner on for 2-3 minutes before rinsing.

To add more shine and to smooth out fly-aways, you can use a couple of drops of almond oil instead of serum. This will add shine and keep your hair protected. Just be careful not to apply to much, or you’ll end up looking like a grease pot.

I’ve fallen madly in love with this website and YouTube channel by Farah Dhukai. She has amazing skin, gorgeous hair and exceptionally helpful tutorials. I’ve followed her on Instagram for a long while now and decided to check out her YouTube channel and am in love with her tutorials.

She’s a makeup guru. She provides great tutorials and how-to information, plus she does her research and gives facts about the products and ingredients she uses on her hair, face and skin. And if that doesn’t get you excited, she also has giveaways every once-in-a-while for great stuff. Currently, she has a NuMe Products giveaway going on.

I just had to share this online guru with all of you because she has become my idol. I am so in love with her hair! OMG! I cannot even explain what amazing and healthy looking hair she has. Plus, she uses most natural ingredients, right out of her kitchen to care for herself. The DIY tutorials are what you all really need to look into.

I’m going to try out some of her tutorials and post reviews on here soon. I’ve already tried the How to Reduce Under-eye Puffiness tutorial and it worked as a charm. I saw instant results and didn’t have any skin reaction to the ingredients she recommended to use.

You have to check her out! I can guarantee, after going through her DIY/Remedies section, you’ll barely ever hit the drug store again for your beauty needs! Check out Farah Dhukai’s website here.

p.s. This endorsement of Farah Dhukai is solely my choice and I have not been paid or hired by her to post about her or her website. I am sharing my opinion solely at my discretion. Should you wish to follow her blog, YouTube channel or try any of her tutorials you do so, at your own will.

Getting Hair Ready For The Holidays

With winter in full-go and the holidays near, I’m noticing that my hairs seems to look dull, dry, damaged and over-processed. So, I’m treating my hair to a no-process day. I’m going to treat my hair to luxury of oil and deep conditioning today! Here’s what I’m doing to get my hair looking revived, shinny and healthy again.

I’ve mixed extra virgin olive oil and peppermint extract together in a small bowl and heated it in the microwave for 10 seconds. Then I’ll massage it on to my scalp and work my way through to the ends of my hair. I’ll cover my hair with a wet towel slightly warm and leave my hair wrapped in it.Once the towel cools off I’ll take it off and just leave the oil in my hair. The olive oil provides nourishment and will help moisturize the hair, while the peppermint oil helps open up the hair folicols and stimulate hair growth.

Once I’m ready to wash my hair, I’ll take a raw egg, beat it slightly and then apply it to my hair. It’s recommended to leave it in for at least 20 minutes and then shampoo. The egg will bring moisture and shine to the hair. After shampooing it, make sure to leave your conditioner on for a few minutes before rinsing and make sure to rinse with cold water. Cold water closes the pores and adds shine to hair.

Nowadays, that I don’t have much time with Ni keeping me extra busy, I do this once a week and it still works wonders on my hair. If you have the time, try doing this a couple of times a week. You can also leave the olive oil and peppermint oil overnight and then wash as normal in the morning. It is said in India that the more oil you apply to your hair and the longer you leave it in, the healthier your hair will be.

Do try it and let me know how your hair feels and looks and do share your home remedies with me! I love trying new, inexpensive treatments!

Happy Holidays and Beautiful Hair!

Product Review: GOSH Hair Dye @goshuk

GOSH 336 – Dark Burgundy Red

I don’t know what possessed me into trying GOSH hair dye today. But I did thinking I’d change my look by adding some red into it to go with my new haircut. Was I ever stupid into thinking that this brand would do the magic of L’Oreal‘s Feria. Not only is my hair not dark burgundy red as specified on the box that it would be, it’s so super dry. Dry to the point that I had to apply a leave-in conditioner to even be able to brush it so it didn’t break any more of my hair. I am so upset. My hair is jet-black and I cannot even change it back unless I strip the color; which will end up doing way more harm. 😥

I’ve sent GOSH’s support department an email (see below). I really hope they get back to me soon and first reimburse me for this horrible product and give me some solutions on trying to fix my hair.

I am absolutely horrified and so upset by your product. I recently purchased a box of hair dye hoping to give myself a new look after having the same hair color for over 9 months. After following after the application process exactly as you listed on the insert, I washed my hair and rinsed with the conditioner provided. I noticed more than usual hair fall, extreme dryness and to top everything off, my hair isn’t even the color the box stated it would be, instead it’s nearly jet-black. It was supposed to be a dark burgundy shade. But no, it’s BLACK!!!!!!! I can’t even change the color if I wanted to.

What do I do now? My hair is so dry. I’ve had to apply a leave-in conditioner to it in order to even brush it and prevent more breakage.

Please get back to me as soon as possible with any way I can fix my hair.

Thank you,

My word of advice to you: It has a horrible smell. It super liquid-y. The conditioner doesn’t help and possibly dries the hair out even more.  And if you do make the mistake of using it, make sure you get yourself one heck of a leave-in conditioner and treatment because this will ruin the texture of your hair. If you’re lucky, you’ll get the color you chose (unlike me).

Wedding Prep

I’m getting my hair cut, colored and highlighted today. It took a lot of encouragement from my friends and a bit of guts on my part to finally make it here. I’ve been so cautious with my hair ever since it started falling out. I really haven’t done anything to it besides letting it grow out. But now I feel like its time to finally make a change. It’s time to finally begin preparing for the wedding and figuring how I want my hair to look at and after the wedding.

The stylist has just put the foils in my hair and I’m waiting for the bleach to pull the black out of my hair. Then we’ll rinse and add the toner. I’m keeping a lot of the dark in my hair but adding some dark blonde highlights. Finally, I’ll have it trimmed and then set. I’m really hoping it turns out the way I anticipated.

Fingers crossed!

More Beauty Remedies

Natural remedies can do wonders that no store bought brand could ever do. Everyday ingredients, out of your kitchen cupboard can be used to target wrinkles, boost your natural glow and correct flaws.

Here are the latest remedies to take care of many of your skin needs.

Baking Soda:
Don’t have time to polish your nails? No worries. Give your nails a quick rub with a lemon wedge dipped in baking soda. Rub it on your nails for a fresh clean and white look.

Apple Cider Vinegar:
Exhausting day? How about taking a bath with a few cups of apple cider vinegar to detox and de-stress? Smells funny, but adding a few drops of rose or lavender oil into the water will help defuse the smell and help you relax.

Beautiful Hair:
Want Magnificent Tresses? You know that old wives’ tale that you should brush your hair 100 times before going to bed every night? Well, it’s actually true. The strokes help the oils disperse through the hair.

Refreshing Lemons:
Pricey creams and serums, are exactly that: Pricey! Brighten up your complexion by rubbing a lemon half on your face and neck. If it tingles; it means it’s getting out the dirt and oil. If it irritates; splash cold water on your face.

Dark lager has proteins that coat the hair and build it up into a lather that repairs damage. Plus, it gives your hair a boost in the bounce and body department. Just boil 3/4 cup of beer until it reduces to 1/4 cup, let cool, and add to 1 cup of regular shampoo.

Chamomile Tea:
Steeped chamomile tea bags can do wonders for your complexion. Just use them warmed for irritated spots on the face, and chilled to target puffy eyes.

Cook a serving of oatmeal with milk. Leave on for 10 minutes for exfoliating super-power.

Oily hair can be corrected by boiling mint leaves in water and adding it to you shampoo.

Hope these remedies help you out. Do let me know how you liked them.
