Testimonial From A True Freshii Fan

As you all know, a couple of months ago I did two rounds of the 3-day Freshii juice cleanse. My first round was extremely hard and I didn’t follow the nutritionists recommendations; which caused bloating and discomfort. The second round of juice cleansing was slightly easier and after after the nutritionists post-cleanse recommendation, I felt lighter and refreshed.

Recently, that same nutritionists contacted me for a testimonial about my experiences and why I chose Freshii’s juice cleanse instead of the others out there. My main reason for choosing Freshii was mostly the convenience and their reputation. The convenience was that it was close by and the staff even stayed open a bit later for me so that I could pick my juices and salad each evening after work. The reputation of Freshii was another deciding factor for me. Matthew Corin has done a phenomenal job at maintaining the integrity of his franchise and brand. Every store you go to is the same; friendly staff, consistent quality and quantity and calm atmosphere. The one major deciding factor was that I saw the juices made right in front of me, instead of being repackaged. I knew exactly what was going into my juices and that was reassuring that I wasn’t putting a bunch of chemically enhanced ingredients in my body.

The price for the juice cleanse was slightly higher than I’d like to pay. As I mentioned above, seeing your juice prepared in front of you is definitely worth paying a higher price. The only thing that I seriously didn’t like was the carrying containers and cups the juice was in. I travel by public transit sometimes and carrying those flimsy juice cups and carrying box was quite inconvenient. I know they used recycled material for the carry box; which is always appreciated and good for the environment, but had they invested in something slightly more sturdy, it would have been convenient for customers.

I’ve already done the juice cleanse twice and plan on doing it once more before the summer is over. It’ll help with the weight-loss journey I’m on. I’ve even recommended to many of my friends that are trying to lose weight and stay fit and will continue to recommend it in the future.

I just wish they would add some more flavors to the mix so that after the second day you don’t get bored with drinking it!

Juice Cleanse: Day 2

JuicesToday’s juice cleanse was a bit easier than yesterday. I feel less tired and more energized. However, as great as the juices taste and salad is, I find it quite hard to look-forward to eating a salad at the end of the day. Mind you, I never did really like salads to start with. The metaboost salad tastes good and has a variety of ingredients in it. But I just would rather choose a steak instead of a salad.

As for the actual cleanse, I kept my routine pretty much the same as yesterday. 2 cups of black coffee, followed by lots of water, 4 juices and finishing the day off with my salad. Straight-forward and simple!

Physically, I don’t feel like I’ve lost any weight in the past day or “cleansed” for that matter. Overall, my body feels lighter, I’m not bloated and I have a little more energy than I normally do.

I have not begun drinking the warm lemon-water and I don’t plan on either. Being an asthma patient, lemons caused my asthma to flare up. So, I have to be extremely cautious with when I use lemons or lemon juice. Instead, I recalled a water recipe my mother had forced me into drinking after Ni was born. This water mixture was to help me shed off the baby-weight and it certainly helped.

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 tbsp. fennel seeds (sonf)
  • 1 tbsp. carom seeds (ajwain)
  • 2-3 black cardamom (moti ilaichi)
  • 1 tbsp. chopped ginger
  • 8-10 cups of water

Here’s what you do:

  • Bring water to a boil in a large pot
  • Add fennel seeds, carom seeds, cardamom and ginger and let boil for 10-15 minutes
  • Let cool and drink ½ a cup at a time
  • In the mornings and after meals, warm before drinking

I enjoy bottling this water mixture up and bringing it to work with me. It’s definitely an acquired taste, but if you can get past the taste, the benefits are plenty. It helps flush out toxins, reduces bloating and helps breakdown fat.

Try it out and let me know you think!

Juice Cleanse: Day 1

JuicesAs you all know, I’ve started the Freshii juice cleanse again. I’m challenging myself to lose 20 lbs. by the end of May, to fit into a new dress I recently purchased. What better way to kick-off a weight-loss challenge than by cleansing your body? I love Freshii’s juices, they taste great and are always made fresh right in front of you. The price is slightly steep but the taste is absolutely worth it.

For those of you that are newcomers on my blog, this is the second time I’m doing this juice cleanse. You can read the results of the first HERE and there are links for the daily details listed below.

Here are my day one results and thoughts:

7am – Green Energy Juice
This is a delicious juice. But the tastes are strong and really wake you up in the morning. I enjoyed my first juice driving on my way to work.

8am – Large cup of black coffee
Although, the cleanse asks you to limit caffeine, I just cannot live without my morning dose of java. Instead of a regular coffee with milk and sugar, I opted for a black.

10am – Carrot Zinger Juice
I love this juice. Just as I start feeling the toll of waking up early, this juice seriously refreshes me and gets me going again.

1pm – Mighty Detox
This is a bit zesty and has a kick to it. But that’s probably why I enjoy it so much.

2pm – Medium cop of black coffee
I couldn’t resist. One cup is just NEVER enough!

3pm – Red Power Juice
This is my absolute favorite. I drink this every time I go to Freshii and its filling and keeps the hunger pangs away and keeps me going until dinner time.

6pm – Metaboost Salad
The quantity is just perfect and so is the taste. It definitely fills you up and prepares you for the next day.

There were a couple of times throughout the day that I felt the need to eat something. But decided to chew on some sugar-free gum instead. I kept myself well-hydrated with lots of water. But I did cheat and have an extra cup of coffee mid-way through the day. I feel, if I’m not adding sugar or milk, it’s not really cheating, right?

Day 1 was a breeze, but it normally is isn’t it? It’s easier to deal with hunger-pangs because your mind is determined to succeed and complete the challenge you’ve taken on. I just hope day 2 goes just as well.

Coming Soon: Progress Report For The New and Improved Me

I know this is a tight deadline. I know I need to have a lot of confidence, discipline and control over myself. I know this will be hard. But I’ve done it in the past and I am confident I can do it again.

On April 1st, I am embarking on a journey of weight-loss. A last attempt to make myself look and feel right. I’ve started this journey many times. But have constantly failed because I gave up far too easily and didn’t fight for myself. Today, I am not going to give up. No matter how hard it gets, no matter how much it hurts and no matter what anyone says; I am going to succeed this time; which is why this is my last attempt.

I recently purchased a dress. A stunning LBD that made me feel like a princess in a fairly tale. As I put the dress over my head, I knew it was tight. But I managed to get it on and even took some photos in it. I loved it, despite it being extremely tight from the bust and waist. I twirled in it. I just loved it. I sent the photos to my hubby, sister, mother, neighbor and good friend and all of them gave me the same reaction, “you look stunning”. Too bad, they couldn’t see how tight it was on me due to the black color of the dress.

The Dress

For the first time in nearly 5 years of being with D, he told me that I looked absolutely stunning, the dress was beautiful and despite it being tight, he wanted me to keep it. He told me

that I look gorgeous in it, but if I could lose 10-15 lbs. to fit perfectly into it, I would look even more stunning. No this was not his way of putting me down. He truly was amazed at how confident I felt and beautiful I looked in this dress and was only trying to encourage me to fight one of the biggest battles of my life; weight-loss.

I took his words to heart. I knew I felt amazing in that dress. I knew I wanted to wear it when we went out to dinner in the summer. But I just needed to fit into it, properly that is. So, I’ve decided to challenge myself to fit into that dress.

Without much effort and probably due to having a stomach flu and bacterial infection for the past few weeks, I’ve managed to lose 15 lbs. But the dress still does not fit as it should; which means, I need to lose more weight. I know I am overweight, probably more than 50 lbs. overweight. Right now, my goal and challenge is to lose 20 lbs. by the end of May 2015.

I’ beginning my weight-loss challenge by preparing for the next seven days, limiting my junk-food intake, gradually reducing sugars until completely coming off them and limiting starch.

On day one, April 1st that is, I will begin my day with warm lemon-water and Freshii’s juice cleanse for three days, followed by a 9am – 5pm diet containing mostly of raw vegetables, fruits and plenty of water. Dinner(s) will consist of fish and chicken sauteed and served with plenty more veggies.

Here’s how I look right now.

I Didn’t Follow Freshii’s In-House Nutritionist’s Post-Cleanse Instructions: My Results

A couple of months ago, I posted about starting Freshii’s new Juice Cleanse. Immediately after my cleanse, I couldn’t find information on how to maximize the results of the cleanse and reached out to Freshii to provide some post-cleanse suggestions; which their In-House Nutritionist gladly did. By the time I received the information from the Nutritionist, I had already been off the cleanse for a few days and didn’t feel I could follow her instructions/suggestion at that point. But like she said, I definitely had a lot of bloating, constipation and nausea. I had terrible cramps, lethargy and just didn’t feel like myself.

The cleanse was hard, but the after part was harder because I didn’t know what to do.  It took me nearly 2-3 weeks to feel like my pre-cleanse self again. Did I lose any weight during or after the cleanse as a direct result of the cleanse, highly unlikely. Had I followed the Nutritionist’s suggestions, I probably would have. Not following her suggestions caused a lot of grievance to my poor digestive system.

I’ve decided to re-try the 3-day juice cleanse again and follow the post-cleanse suggestions. My plan is to continue with warm lemon-water every morning, during and after the cleanse. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I won’t be making smoothies for breakfast. However, I will be replacing the smoothies with fresh juices from Freshii, especially my favorite of them all, the Red Power Juice. Lunch will be a combination of home-made and Freshii bought salads and dinner I will try to incorporate some fish and chicken with lots of raw veggies. I plan to stay away from bread, rice, roti and all kinds of unnatural sugars.

I’m going to begin my 20 lbs. weight-loss challenge on April 1st. Will you join me on my challenge and start your own?

Post-Cleanse Nutritional Information From Freshii

JuicesAfter my juice cleanse, I questioned the staff at Freshii to provide post-cleanse information and luckily for me, their In-house Nutritionist contacted me with the following information:

The easiest mistake that any Juice Cleanser can make is to eat the wrong foods post-cleanse. Your digestive system is very delicate after a cleanse, having not digested much for days. First and foremost, it is important to avoid all processed & packaged unhealthy foods; meats, cow’s diary, coffee and alcohol. If you jump right back into making unhealthy food choices, not only will you experience uncomfortable physical symptoms (stomach pain, bloating & nausea), but you will actually hinder the progress you made while cleansing! Take the days after you finish your cleanse as an opportunity to continue the detoxification process. Ease off the cleanse with clean, wholesome and easy to digest foods.

  • Begin each morning with a glass of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon.
  • Drink a superfood smoothie for breakfast with ingredients such as spinach, kale, chia seeds, hemp seeds, avocado, coconut oil and berries.
  • Consume lots of raw or lightly steamed vegetables, fruits, green salads & vegetable soups.
  • Slowly incorporate gluten-free grains into your plant-based meals-i.e. quinoa, brown rice, millet and amaranth.
  • Stick to plant-based proteins in the days following your cleanse (nuts, seeds & beans). Reintroduce light animal proteins gradually over the week such as steamed fish, white chicken or eggs.
  • Include fresh juices and plenty of plant-based foods each day for optimal health and wellness.
  • Continue to listen to your body to see what foods work well for you.

Use the Freshii Juice Cleanse as a chance to kick-start your health and break old habits of making poor food choices. Take this opportunity to start fresh, focusing your diet on plant-based and vegetable-rich meals; which will nourish your body from head to toe!

In-house Nutritionist

I’m going to re-do my cleanse in a couple of weeks and will thoroughly follow the Nutritionists suggestions and comments. Had I received this by the time I finished my first cleanse, I would’ve followed it. But better late than never. I’m planning on re-doing the juice cleanse on Feb. 1st.

I’ll follow-up with all of you after my second cleanse and let you know how these nutritional suggestions helped!

Freshii’s 3-Day Juice Cleanse Review

JuicesThe challenge I took on earlier this week is now over. It has been a hard three days and quite the roller-coaster when I consider my hunger and satisfaction. Monday was the hardest, Tuesday not so much. By Wednesday evening I’d had enough. Don’t get me wrong, the juices taste absolutely fantastic, as does the salad. It just becomes a bit much when that’s all you’re eating or in this case, drinking.

Here are my results:
Packaging: Hard to commute with 2/5
Taste: Oh so yummy! 5/5
After cleanse results: My body feels lighter 4/5
Did I lose any weight: No. But I didn’t expect to either 4/5
Price: $80 for a 3-day cleanse. A bit high, but totally worth it when you consider watching the employees make your salad and juices fresh in front of you. 4.5/5
Overall rating: 3.5/5
Would I buy it again: Absolutely.
Would I recommend it to my friends: Yes

Overall results: The only reason why I’m giving it a lower than perfect rating is for two reasons:

  1. Packaging was a big issue. Getting the juices home and then carrying them to work was a headache, as the take-out containers aren’t all that great; especially when you’re taking transit. By day 2, I had purchased three water bottles to carry my juices to work and reused the bottles yesterday as well.
  2. Secondly, now that my juice cleanse is over, there is little to no information on what to do next on Freshii’s website. For a company that strives on freshness and healthy eating, you’d think they would have come up with a post-cleanse regime to keep customers engaged and eating better. Of course, all their food is very nutritional. But how about a “now that your cleanse is over, here’s how you can continue to eat healthy and benefit off your cleanse to optimize results” guide.

As for me, I’ve decided that I am going to continue to eat a healthy, junk-free diet. Today, I’ve brought homemade biryani with me and will have an apple and handful of almonds as a snack throughout my work-day. For dinner, I’ve asked my husband to pick up a Metaboost salad for me from Freshii. I’ll have half of it tonight and the rest for lunch tomorrow with a sandwich.

I’m taking baby steps towards my healthier lifestyle and weight-loss to ensure I don’t get sidetracked by all the chocolates, cookies and other junk food around me.

Stay tuned for some of my “healthy-eating” choices now that my juice cleanse is over.
