Ni’s 10 Week Birthday Letter

Happy 10 Week Birthday, Angel!

This has been an interesting, nerve-wrecking and fun week. Your grandma bought us a 16×20 family portrait gift card from The Bay for Christmas and the three of us got all dolled up and had our photo taken. You weren’t fussy at all and we managed to get a great photo taken of us. But it’ll be about four weeks before we get it. Plus, I’ve already thought of the perfect place to put it up once its ready.

Then mommy had a real scare because you had developed a rash all over your body and face. Mommy and grandma took you to the after-hours walk-in clinic and were advised by the doctor that you have severe eczema. So, he prescribed you a jar of cortisone ointment and recommended mommy not use any soap or baby wash on you. You seem relieved of the itchiness and irritation now and your skin and face have gone back to normal. Phew! That was hard to deal with because you looked like a swollen strawberry.

Yesterday you had your first immunization! It was more nerve-wrecking and painful for me to watch then it was for you to endure. You got one needle on each thigh and had to take an oral liquid-form medicine too. You cried a bit, but your mommy was prepared for any pain or fever you may experience. I remembered that when we were at the hospital when you were born, the nurse would give you a little bit of sugar water before giving you a needle. So, being the smart mommy that I am, I took a bottle of sugar water for you to have after your needle an some Tempra. Then you pretty much slept all day.

It was an interesting, up and down type of week. Plus, mommy found out that you are now 11lbs 10 ounces and 57 cm long. My little angel, you’re growing so quickly! You barely fit into your 0-3 month clothes now. But it’s all good. You are adorable as always.

Happy 10 Week Birthday again, sweetheart! Don’t you ever forget how much mommy and daddy love you. Xoxo

Okay, so, this is a topic all too familiar to me and my blog. Weight loss is the one thing that is always on my mind. I gained a lot of weight a few years back and the challenges of getting it off have haunted and tortured me ever since. I’ve done endless hours of research on the topic and tried my hardest to follow every diet out there. None of which have actually worked.

So, I got a cousin-in-law involved and she is setting up a daily food in-take routine for me. Yes, it’s another diet. Well, sort of. I’m not really “dieting” but I’m changing my eating habits. One of my biggest problems is that I have to finish everything on my plate, no matter the quantity. By changing my plate size, I’m going to try to trick myself into thinking that there is actually a lot of food on my plate, because the whole plate is covered.

My next change will be to have a salad or some “Negative Calorie” foods before every meal. This will help me feel a little full before I actually begin my main course; which will result in me eating fewer calories. Click here to read more on Negative Calorie Foods!

I am also increasing my cold water intake. The reason for this is that our body uses more calories to heat up cold water to digest, which results in more calories burnt. 🙂 I’m happy about that! But that’s not all. By drinking a glass of warm water with lemon first thing in the morning before brushing, your body will flush out a lot of the toxins and build up from the night before. This helps to jump-start your metabolism. I don’t know if it’s been scientifically proven or not, but I’ve seen results in family members that have adapted this simple routine every morning.

The next step to my weight-loss is doing a simple tummy exercise. Believe me this is not much of an exercise but will result in lost inches. Sitting upright either on the floor or on a chair with your back straight and arms on the side, suck your stomach in, hold for 10-15 seconds and release. Doing this while sitting at work or watching tv on a daily basis will result in much inches disappearing. I know this from first hand experience. When I stopped teaching dance and gained all this weight, I did this exercise to keep off some of the fat around my tummy and it worked!

Well, those are my changes. I’ll be starting them this weekend and I’ll let you know how they go! 🙂

Until then…<3

Starting Point

I was never skinny. I always had meat on my body and even though my brother and dad joked about me being fat, I really didn’t mind my weight. My teenage years and during my early 20’s, I maintained a weight of 135-140 lbs. However, a few years ago my domestic issues evolved and I let myself go. I stopped caring about the way I looked or how I felt about myself. I was so focused on how other people made me feel and all the issues that occurred around me, that I didn’t realize I had gained 105 lbs.

Today I weigh 268 lbs. I hate myself for letting my body become what it has. I hate the way I look. I don’t feel confident!

But I need to. I can’t continue feeling or looking the way I do. I sometimes get the feeling that my low self-esteem is noticed by people. I want to change how I feel about myself. I want to change what I see when I look in the mirror. I don’t care what other people say about me or think about me. But I want to become the confident person I used to be.

People I work with and daily associate with have told me that writing down everything they eat, has helped them control their daily food intake. It’s also helped them control the quantity of food and calories they eat.

So, I’ve decided to start writing down my daily food intake. I’m not going to know exactly how many calories each item has, however, I will definitely try to find out. This part of my blog is more for me than anyone else. I want to assess my daily intake and activities. Hopefully, in a few weeks/months I’ll be able to get an idea of the things I need to change.

Because I want to change the way I look and feel, I am setting a goal for myself. I’m giving myself 12 months to lose 100 lbs. That averages out to about 8.3 lbs a month. I know that’s a little hard to do but it’s something I’d like to do. Here are a few other changes I’ve made:

  1. Cut out salt
  2. Cut out soda
  3. Drink at least 2-3 bottles of water a day
  4. Exercise or walk for at least 15 minutes a day
  5. Eat breakfast

Duration: 12 months (1 year)
Target: 160 lbs. – 170 lbs.
